Carmen Schentrup was shot and killed in her AP Psychology class at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida almost four years ago. She was only 16 years old. Her family moved to Washington in the wake of that tragedy. Last year, her mother, April Schentrup, shared her story in support of SB 5078, to restrict access to high-capacity magazines.

As April explained, high-capacity magazines, which hold more than 10 rounds of ammo, make shootings deadlier by allowing shooters to fire more rounds, more quickly, making it harder for victims to escape and for anyone to intervene. The precious seconds it takes a shooter to reload can mean the difference between life and death.
