Jack, I'll be honest with you, I am worried about the upcoming midterm elections.
-
Midterm elections have historically been a purge of the party in control of the White House. This is not a good sign for continued Democratic control of Congress, as we already hold the narrowest of majorities in both chambers of Congress.
-
In 2021, Republican legislators enacted 34 laws in 19 states to make it more difficult for people to vote, with more in the works for 2022. Many of these laws target voters of color and young voters, who tend to vote Democratic.
-
Trump has already hit the campaign trail and endorsed 86 candidates, up and down the ballot. Some of these endorsements are for offices that directly oversee our elections and vote counting. According to Trump, "sometimes the Vote-Counter is more important than the candidate."
This is worrying stuff, but at Daily Kos we are uniquely well positioned to take on the challenges that progressives face in the 2022 elections:
-
As a national organization, we have a long history of running BIG volunteer programs. In 2020, we recruited over 111,000 volunteers from our community of grassroots activists to help turn out the vote using innovative tools and a wide variety of proven get out the vote methods.
-
In the 2020 election cycle , we endorsed 86 candidates up and down the ballot, connecting campaigns with much needed resources like money (over $10M raised!), volunteers (over 111,000 of them!), and attention (millions of people read our content every single month).
-
We are the country's largest independent and progressive news and activism outlet. In fact, in 2020, over 75 million people visited the Daily Kos website to not only read the news, but to do something about it by taking the impactful actions we connect to almost every single story we publish.
At Daily Kos we can do a lot, but we can't be prepared for the upcoming elections if we are constantly playing catchup when it comes to fundraising. We still need to raise another $24,856 to hit our January fundraising goal. Can you help us out by donating $5?
Thanks for all you do,
Amanda McKay, Daily Kos
