Friends,

Happy New Year!

For those of you who have been supporting LAANE’s work for a long time, you may be familiar with the Utility Pre-Craft Trainee (UPCT) program. The UPCT program is a union apprenticeship that successfully moves low-wage workers into good union jobs at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. It was created by IBEW Local 18, and LAANE, alongside our partners at SCOPE, has fought and advocated for it for over a decade.

To help us spread the word about this program and its immense impact on the lives of hundreds of participants, our utility, and our city, please share this video based on a report by Professor Virginia Parks of UC Irvine.

And stay tuned as RePower continues to:

  • Work with LADWP to erase utility debt for struggling Angelenos and create and expand programs that prevent more debt

  • Engage with LADWP and city leaders to ensure that BIPOC and low-income communities, and the workers who keep our city powered, are both architects and beneficiaries of LA’s clean energy future

In Solidarity,

Roxana Tynan
LAANE Executive Director
