Nature shrinks as capital grows. The growth of the market cannot
solve the very crisis it creates. In nature's economy and the
sustenance economy the currency is not money, it is life.

Comrades:
It’s not spring quite yet, but the weather is warming and we’re
emerging from nearly two years of Covid-enforced hiatus. What better
way to stretch your literal and proverbial muscles than to join your
East Bay DSA comrades for a Tax the Rich canvass?
Join the Electoral Committee as we go out and talk to our neighbors
about taxing the rich in Oakland and using that wealth to fund a city
for working people—with housing, good union jobs, clean and
well-maintained streets and parks. A city that puts people over
profit. RSVP here

** DSA REMEMBERS MIKE PARKER (1940 –
2022)
------------------------------------------------------------
East
Bay Democratic Socialists of America (EBDSA) member Mike Parker passed
away late on Saturday, January 15 at 81 years old after a year-long
fight with cancer. He was not only a warm friend and mentor to me and
so many others, but a brilliant and one-of-a-kind movement
builder.

** KAISER RISKS PATIENTS' LIVES DURING ENGINEER
STRIKE
------------------------------------------------------------
Stationary
and Biomedical engineers in Local 39 have been on strike against
Kaiser Permanente for 77 days, fighting against disgraceful working
conditions. When pharmacists and nurses went on strike, outcry from
the community and bad press helped Kaiser move quickly to accommodate
these workers. For the engineers, however, it’s been a long and hard
wait, and it is crucial for the public to understand how patient
safety relies on engineers just as much as it does on nurses.

** Labor Committee
Meeting
------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday,
January 30 | 6–8:15 p.m.
Online via Zoom – RSVP for info ♿️
The
Labor Committee meets on the last Sunday of every month. At our
meetings, we discuss current issues and events in the labor movement
from a socialist perspective as well as Committee strategy,
priorities, projects, and events. We also make space for comrades to
discuss the organizing they’re doing in their workplaces and unions.
Meetings are open to all, though only Committee members may vote on
Committee business.
The Labor Committee is a great place to meet other socialists and
workplace “troublemakers” who are committed to fighting to advance the
dignity and interests of workers and the working class in their
workplaces and beyond, and to reform and transform their unions into
strong, fighting, bottom-up democratic organizations.

We need your help building a strong and active chapter! Join our
next Membership Engagement Committee monthly meeting and learn how you
can put your skills to work or grow new ones you never knew you
had!
The Membership Engagement Committee was created for the purpose of
initiating and sustaining our members' active and healthy
participation in the chapter's work. We cannot grow our movement
without engaging and fostering growth within our current membership.
We strive to grow confident organizers and leaders as well as strong
relationships between comrades in our chapter by supporting all
committees in their work and creating spaces for learning and
camaraderie.
Our committee builds and maintains projects such as (but not
limited to) our mobilizers program, planning and execution of chapter
socials, new member events, and Organizer's Toolbox Trainings, as well
as managing the onboarding of new members. As our chapter grows we
need to grow our efforts with it and would love to welcome new members
to our committee.

The
East Bay DSA Branches Working Group has been tasked by the chapter
Steering Committee to determine how to institute a branch
structure.
From Fremont to Vallejo and Oakland to Antioch, East Bay DSA covers
a wide range not just in territory but in conditions and issues. In
order to make sure all neighborhoods of our chapter are represented
and engaged, we are considering a branch structure similar to what has
been done in other DSA chapters including DSA LA, DSA Atlanta, and
Metro DC DSA.
Branches can be formed in many ways and we want to get your input
on how it should be done!

SIGN UP TO TALK TO A MOBILIZER!
Are you a new DSA member? Or are
you looking to get more involved with East Bay DSA's projects and
campaigns? Sign up to talk to a mobilizer!
Here are three reasons to sign up to talk to a mobilizer:
1.
Meet a fellow socialist organizer
We want to build a movement of
millions of working class people and change the exploitative and
oppressive system in which we live, but we do that first and foremost
by building one-to-one connections with each other.
2. Answer your questions
Learn more about DSA, the local East
Bay chapter, and our different committees and projects.
3. Get more involved
The main thing a mobilizer will help you
with is getting more involved in DSA. Maybe there’s a campaign or
project you’re particularly interested in, or maybe you’re a blank
slate and you don’t really know what to do. Either way, a mobilizer
will help you figure it out.

Between the powerful and the
wealthy, and the poor and vulnerable, who should a pastor side with? I
have no doubts. A pastor should stay with his people.
