John,
Last week, the Michigan GOP co-chair tweeted out this:
As Maya Angelou once said, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” Well, I believe her, and I believe that there is no place for racist attacks here in Michigan or our country.
No matter how hard they try, I will not be distracted by racist attacks coming from the Michigan GOP. Michiganders deserve better than this, and it is up to all of us to vote and organize to stand tall against those who say and do racist things.
This is why we work so hard to protect the freedom to vote in Michigan. The leaders and legislators of the Michigan Republican Party have tried time and again to make it harder for some Michiganders to register and vote–but we are doing everything in our power to block them.
Here’s the truth, John, the Michigan GOP co-chair’s statement is just the beginning of the attacks that will fly during this election. Extremists are running against us to turn back the clock in Michigan and chip away at all the progress we’ve made here.
We cannot allow extremists to win here–we need to take a stand today. We have seen who they are and how they would govern, and Michigan deserves better than racist, partisan attacks and extremist views. Our campaign team is even more focused on executing our plan to win by informing, engaging, and mobilizing voters all over Michigan.
So today, I’m asking you to contribute $5 or whatever you can to our reelection campaign to stand tall against this rhetoric and stay focused on the issues that matter most.
