Friend, The fight for voting rights is far from over. Last week’s vote on the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act was a setback, not a defeat. Tonight, I’ll be joining Congressman John Sarbanes (D-MD) and democracy coalition leaders and activists from across the country for a movement call on our ongoing efforts to protect the freedom to vote. We hope you can join us as we cover the nationwide campaign over the past year to defend our democracy, and what you can do to stay involved. Although last week’s vote was a disappointment, remember that throughout our nation’s history major steps toward progress have been met with resistance. We must continue to advocate for the right of every American to have an equal say in our democracy. Rep. John Sarbanes has been leading the charge in Congress to reinvigorate our democracy, and I can’t wait to discuss his front-line take on last week’s showdown with the Senate’s anti-voting rights Republicans. We’ll also be joined by national and local leaders who’ve been organizing in communities across the country to defend our freedom to vote in every way they can, outside of the federal protections we so desperately need. Save your place for TONIGHT’S movement call on the freedom to vote with Rep. Sarbanes at 8 PM ET! >> Over the past year, you – and hundreds of thousands of fellow Americans – mobilized and demanded that our elected leaders act to create a democracy that works for all of us. Join People For and our partners for today’s call to take a look at the incredible organizing that you and other activists have done to get us to this point. Together, we can and will protect our freedom to vote. I hope to see you tonight, – Ben Jealous, President
