Tonight I’m going to a protest in Tacoma. We’re protesting an anti-homeless group that’s trying to get a camping ban passed in Tacoma.

Do we want people to sleep in tents? No, we want everyone to have homes. But since our homeless community doesn’t have homes, they should be allowed to sleep in tents without constant harassment and abuse. A year ago, two men went to an encampment and started shooting, killing a man trying to protect his tentmates and sending others to the hospital.

There’s no excuse for people to be in this kind of danger. FEMA is giving localities free money to house people in hotels, yet people are freezing to death on the streets.

Why? Because homeless people simply aren’t a priority for local politicians. There’s no rich lobby pushing them to get everyone in hotel rooms. Instead, there’s a rich lobby pushing them to enact a camping ban.

I’m running for Congress because in the richest country on Earth, no one should be homeless. Period. I will never waver in that vision.

Tonight I’ll be at this protest. It would be a wonderful surprise to get back tonight and find out we raised $1,000 toward our January fundraising minimum.
