John,

Today is a day dedicated to celebrating and caring for our veterans. I want to thank the 120,000 veterans here in Maine for their service to our country and the sacrifices they have made. And, I believe our veteran's shouldn't just be honored on one day of the year. The best way to honor them is to support our veterans every day with policies and funding that ensure they have the mental, physical and emotional healthcare they need, adequate housing and jobs that pay a living wage.

We have counted on them to serve, and our veterans and their families are counting on us to be there for them as they end their terms of service. We must take that obligation seriously.

Tomorrow, on Veterans' Day, I'm honored to be in Augusta at a Veterans' Day forum to discuss veterans' issues and foreign policy. Together we can determine the solutions that work and put them into action. That is the best way to celebrate and honor those who have served.

I hope to see you there.
