News outlets reported today that Justice Stephen Breyer is expected to retire from the Supreme Court. I want to first thank him for his important service to our nation.
A vacancy on the Supreme Court *also* gives President Biden an opportunity to make good on his promise to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court.
As the former Chief Justice of North Carolina's Supreme Court, I firmly believe that our Supreme Court — like all institutions — must reflect the diversity of our nation.
We must be loud and clear on this. Please sign my petition to tell President Biden to make good on his promise to nominate a Black woman to fill this vacancy on the Supreme Court and to tell Senate Democrats to confirm her without delay or interference from Republicans. >>> [link removed]
This vacancy shows again that it is crucially important we elect a Senator who will thoughtfully consider the qualifications of any nominee and how their decisions will impact the lives of North Carolinians, from voting rights to reproductive freedom and other critical issues.
Please add your voice to mine by signing our petition calling on President Biden to nominate and the U.S. Senate to confirm a Black woman to the Supreme Court. We know that Republicans will try to stop this progress, but we cannot be deterred. >>> [link removed]
