After serving our nation for more than 27 years, Justice Stephen Breyer will retire from the Supreme Court. I’m incredibly grateful for Justice Breyer’s decades of service.

This news arrives at a critical juncture in our nation’s history — a time when public faith in our legal institutions is steadily deteriorating. So, it’s critical that the Senate fill this vacancy as quickly as possible.

In the coming weeks, I will meet with President Biden’s future nominee and review their record, background and legal philosophy. I’m committed to honoring Justice Breyer’s legacy by confirming a justice who will faithfully interpret the Constitution.
