The high cost of Maryland’s understaffed state government [[link removed]]

Team,

America's workforce is changing significantly across the country, and Maryland is no exception.

Last week, a member of Maryland's own Governor’s Council confessed during a public hearing that his agency is critically understaffed, affecting their ability to do their jobs. This is not the first time we've heard something like this from Annapolis. For the past seven years , the vital services that protect Maryland's environment, economy, and the health and safety of our residents have been compromised because of inadequate staffing and underpayment.

Maryland workers inside the government and out deserve to have competitive salaries and adequate support to do their jobs, and right now executive leadership in Annapolis just isn't getting the job done.

I've fought for workers my entire career – first, as Maryland Labor Secretary where we passed the nation's first living wage law, and again as U.S. Labor Secretary. I know what it takes to make government work for the hardworking people of Maryland, and I have a plan to get us there.

Team, I've stood shoulder to shoulder with the labor movement, fighting for worker's rights my entire career in public service. I can tell you that creating jobs, ensuring our government prioritizes workers inside and out of public service, and strengthening Maryland's economy won't happen overnight.

I'm running for governor because I believe Maryland has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a future where workers know they have a voice and the government finally works for the people it serves.

Take a look at my plan to learn more about how we’ll get there – together. [[link removed]]

Thank you,

Tom

P.S. We can shape our emerging workforce into one that listens to workers and creates good paying jobs that actually allow folks to provide for their families – but I can only do it with your help. Can I count on you to chip in $3 or whatever you can to ensure we bring sustainable, good paying jobs to Maryland? [[link removed]]
