This just in: News outlets are reporting that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is expected to retire at the end of the Court's term this year. The formal announcement is anticipated at the White House tomorrow.

What it means: President Biden and the Senate will now have a chance to confirm a new Supreme Court Justice — something Democrats haven't done in more than a decade — and we're expecting a big showdown on the nomination this summer.

John, this is one of the most important decisions Joe Biden — who committed to appointing the first Black woman to the Supreme Court as a candidate — will make as president.

And with the current far-right majority on the Court considering overturning the constitutional right to access abortion in the coming weeks, this nomination will immediately become part of our larger fight to rebalance the Supreme Court in order to stop them from causing even more harm to working people and our democracy.
