John – it's Abby. We just learned that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will retire at the end of this term. Right now, the stakes are high, and I need you with me. My opponent, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), has stolen a Supreme Court seat before, all in an effort to cement a partisan far-right majority.

Democrats now have the opportunity to confirm a justice who will serve on the bench for years to come, but as we know all too well, without a single vote to spare, nothing is guaranteed. And if we don’t move quickly, Mitch McConnell has already said that he’s likely to block any future appointment President Biden makes if he becomes Majority Leader.

We simply can’t let that happen.

A 50-50 majority is simply not a sustainable way of governing. Until we expand our Democratic majority, we cannot successfully deliver for the American people or, in moments like this, ensure that our basic rights are protected in the courts.

But if we defeat Sen. Grassley here in Iowa, Democrats will be virtually guaranteed to not only hold but EXPAND our Senate majority. When the GOP held the Senate majority, they stacked the court with far-right extremists who will continue to do harm to our country for years to come – and Sen. Grassley was the architect of their plans. As the then-chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he conspired with McConnell to block consideration of President Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, and worked in a hyper-partisan fashion to confirm justices  Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch Barrett.

Together, we can make sure Sen. Grassley never does that again.

Iowans are ready to show him the door – but the GOP and its allies have already raked in more than $100 MILLION to defeat Democratic challengers like me and take back the Senate.
