John,
Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer just announced that he is retiring — leaving President Biden with the job of filling his vacancy on the Court, and Congress to confirm his nominee.
As we all think about who would be best suited for this job, I would like to remind President Biden of a promise he first made on the campaign trail: nominating a Black woman to the Supreme Court.
In our country's entire history, no Black woman has ever before served on the nation's highest court. That's unacceptable, John.
As President Biden said, the Supreme Court should "look like the country" and that "it's long past time" for a Black woman to serve on the court. Now, we need to make sure he keeps to his promise.
Peace and love,
Jamaal Bowman
