“If we want a people’s government, we need lots of talented organizers hard at work across our state. Every one of these people has been organizing in their own communities for years, without funding or fanfare. We’re proud to support their work however we can.” Katey Lauer |
Groundwork Project is proud to partner with West Virginia Can’t Wait and to help fund this apprentice program.
We know that building a vibrant organizing base is key to building durable political power. Many of our partner states are under-resourced, making it hard to sustain year-round organizing efforts.
Who is West Virginia Can't Wait (WVCW)?
WVCW is a movement to win a people’s government in the Mountain State.
In three years they’ve already recruited and trained 107 candidates who do not accept donations from corporations, started the West Virginia Organizer Apprentice program, run a citizen journalism project to back independent media outlets, and are launching pilot municipal ballot initiative campaigns across the state.
What makes the WVCW Apprentice Program special?
- Each apprentice receives $30,000 in “no strings attached” funding to support their ongoing organizing efforts
- Program funds allow apprentices to grow each of their existing organizing efforts—which span from labor organizing to drug use harm reduction
- Each apprentice receives monthly one-on-one coaching, and bi-monthly in-person leadership training
- WV Can’t Wait provides support through their budget and fundraising team, to help apprentices with accounting, fiscal sponsorship, and ongoing fundraising
