Dear Friend,
It’s been two years in the making, we’re finally here!
Today, we’re making history. We’re so excited that we can finally share with you our new campaign, “All Hands In,” and the introduction of the Nail Salon Minimum Standards Council Act.
As part of the New York Healthy Nail Salons Coalition, we’re joined by New York State Senator Jessica Ramos and Assemblymember Harry Bronson, and Steering Committee partners NYCOSH and Workers United, in introducing this unique bill to the New York State legislature. The first of its kind in the entire country for the nail salon industry, the Nail Salon Minimum Standards Council Act would create a nail salon industry council made up of workers, employers, and government officials - quite literally - creating a seat at the table for workers.
What the bill proposes:
The council will have broad powers to establish new workplace standards for all nail salons in New York, including on issues such as wages, scheduling, paid time off, and training. In an even more innovative move, the bill proposes to also convene a price minimum committee of economic experts who will recommend a new minimum pricing model for the state to raise the floor for both workers and employers alike.
