When Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema joined 50 Republicans last week to
oppose 48 Senate Democrats fighting for voting rights, it crystallized a
key idea for a lot of people: It isn’t enough to just elect Democrats. It
matters which Democrats.

As a state legislator, Summer fought efforts by Republicans in
Pennsylvania's state legislature to disenfranchise voters and even impeach
judges in the aftermath of Jan 6.

Now, she’s running for an open Democratic congressional seat in
Pennsylvania that a more conservative Dem is contesting.

in $3 to her campaign.

The Nation reports:

"Summer Lee is on the front lines of the fight to defend the right to vote
-- and to give people something to vote for. An outspoken advocate for
economic, social, and racial justice, who is campaigning for Congress with
endorsements from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, Justice
Democrats, the Working Families Party, and Democracy for America, the
Pennsylvania activist and legislator has earned a reputation for having
her finger on the pulse of grassroots voters -- and potential voters."

Many of the issues Summer fights for are personal. Her hometown is riddled
with steel and coke processing plants that cause massive pollution and
some of the worst air quality in the country. With kids suffering from
severe asthma and others diagnosed with cancer, Summer has organized her
community against environmental injustices for years.

As a single mom saddled with crippling student loans, Summer is committed
to canceling student debt.

Summer is also building the progressive bench. After she crushed a
conservative 20-year Dem incumbent to win her state house seat, she
started a group to support progressive women, LGBTQ candidates, and
candidates of color. ALL of the candidates won their primaries!

She's the first Black woman to represent southwest Pennsylvania in the
state legislature. If elected, she will be the first Black congresswoman
from Pennsylvania.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.
