Long-term Survivors of Suicide Loss Summit

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s flagship fundraising event, the Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk, is returning in person this year! The event will take place in New York City on June 4.

The Overnight is a community-building experience in which participants walk 16+ miles from dusk to dawn in honor of loved ones we’ve lost, those with lived experience, and anyone affected by this leading cause of death, creating awareness and raising funds for this important cause. For many, The Overnight is a powerful introduction to a community of people who understand. Each Overnight participant is assigned a personal Walker Coach when they register, who supports them in their personal Overnight goals, guiding them along the way.

In the words of AFSP Walker Coach Heather Buckendahl, who has participated in eight Overnight Walks:

“Each year, I am so honored to work with hundreds of people across the nation who have one goal in mind: to stop suicide. I’m honored to hear their stories, share their triumphs, and be part of their journey. The Overnight has been part of thousands of healing journeys through the years, including my own. As we begin the New Year and return to being in-person, I truly hope that you’ll join us. We’ve missed you, and we can’t wait to see you (and hug you!) again.” Read more of Heather’s story here, in AFSP’s Real Stories blog.
