"Glenn Youngkin just showed us why he’s already going full Trumpist on schools" — Washington Post

As soon as Glenn Youngkin was sworn in as Governor of Virginia, he began to make his hyper conservative right-wing agenda a reality. Within days, he was issuing executive orders dictating what teachers can teach about history and allowing students to opt out of school mask mandates that keep teachers and students safe. Through these actions, he is already beginning to undermine the advances Virginia made over the last few years on education – reminding us that elections have consequences, and years of progress can be erased at the drop of a hat.

The truth is, the more Glenn Youngkin doubles down on attacking our progress, the harder we need to fight to make sure the same doesn’t happen here in Maryland. Can you help us make sure that doesn’t happen by supporting our campaign today?

This isn’t the first time Youngkin has shown his true colors – he won his election using dog whistle politics and baiting voters with ridiculous anti-Critical Race Theory rhetoric. His rise and successful implementation of dangerous policies should serve as a stark preview of what awaits us if we nominate a candidate who is not equipped to stand up to Republican attacks on public education.

As a lifelong educator, former teacher and principal, and former U.S. Secretary of Education, I am equipped to lead on education, and I’ll work tirelessly to ensure Maryland government is a force for good in people’s lives.

I will never back down when it comes to defending the health and wellbeing of students in this state. I am ready to build on progressive accomplishments here in Maryland and work to provide even more opportunities in education, especially for Black and brown students who have so often been left behind.
