Dear John,
This is a really important week in Harrisburg, so I wanted to give you an update before I head to the floor to vote.
House Republicans are expected to advance a Constitutional amendment to replace the fair bi-partisan maps with their own hand picked commission to gerrymander Pennsylvania even more.
This is nothing more than a power grab to silence your voice. I am a hard no on HB 2207 for many reasons, but here are a few.
1. Instead of working in a bi-partisan fashion, Republicans are changing our state’s constitution to stay in power. They know amendments to our constitution cannot be vetoed by Governor Wolf so they found a loophole.
2. Pennsylvania is one of the most gerrymandered states in the country. The redistricting process was an opportunity to change that and ensure representation is fair across our commonwealth.
3. Republicans are rushing to change our state’s constitution instead of working with Democrats to raise the minimum wage or pass the PA Rescue Plan to support communities and businesses hit hardest by COVID-19.
If you want to stand up for fair maps in Pennsylvania, chip-in what you can so I can continue fighting in Harrisburg for maps that represent Pennsylvania’s growing diversity.
