Over the weekend, the Chair of the January 6th Committee confirmed the existence of a draft executive order from President Trump in December 2020 that would have commanded the U.S. Department of Defense to “seize, collect, retain and analyze all machines, equipment, electronically stored information, and material" related to the election.

It's shocking. Although the order was never signed, it suggests a level of planning and possible coordination that should motivate us.

We should be motivated to find out who authored the draft - and to what extent the draft was seriously considered. We should also be motivated to make sure that we never see dangerous plans like this ever again in any White House - regardless of political party. It's easy to become numb. The January 6th Committee is regularly discovering more documents that show just how close we may have come to a constitutional crisis in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election.
