Hi John,
Just wanted to make sure you caught my invite to this Thursday’s Strategy Call.
The U.S. Senate let America down by failing to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. But the pro-democracy movement is still moving full steam ahead.
RepresentUs is already hard at work to beat back authoritarianism, fight partisan gerrymandering, and spread ranked choice voting to states and cities across America. But we can only win these fights if you stay with us in the trenches.
Will you join us this Thursday, January 27th at 7 pm ET / 4pm PT for a strategy call on what’s next for American democracy post-Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act?
Keep reading below for more on our plan to beat back political corruption.
See you there,

John, I have bad news.
Tonight the Senate failed to reform the filibuster – blocking the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act from passing for now.
The fact that Congress couldn't work together to pass an incredibly popular bill that would save our democracy isn't just infuriating. It also shows how important our fight to fix our broken political system is.
We are outraged at the Senate’s failure to prioritize fixing our broken system, but we continue to be inspired by the dedication of our members and coalition partners who mobilized tens of thousands of Americans to bring us so close to passing sweeping reforms.
Though a path forward on the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act is unclear, we must continue the fight to protect voting rights city by city, state by state, and in the halls of Congress.
Join us for a strategy call on Thursday, 1/27 at 7 PM ET to learn more about how we are bringing the democracy reform movement to the states. >>
Since our founding 10 years ago, RepresentUs has pursued a proven strategy of winning campaigns in cities and states to build momentum for federal reform. We are in this for the long haul, and when we put our weight behind this bill, we knew that pushing historic federal pro-democracy legislation wasn't a sure bet. But we had to try, and we will continue to fight for it.
We are extremely proud of the work our members and our movement did to push for federal reform. Here is what we accomplished together:
- 13,764 calls to Congress,
- 1,432 calls to West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginians,
- 87,624 petition signatures delivered to Congress,
- 17 letters to the editor published in local newspapers,
- 37 in-person and more than 50 virtual member-led events across America,
- Over 25 million views on our viral pro-democracy videos, and
- More than 560 mentions in the press.
The odds have always been against us, but our movement muscled this bill through powerful special interests and political gridlock. We should all be proud of the work we've done on this campaign, and we remain determined as we continue to work at every level to defend our republic.
RepresentUs members and our coalition partners are already gearing up to protect our elections from manipulation, fight gerrymandering in state legislatures, pass ranked choice voting to dismantle the “lesser of two evils” duopoly, and stop the destructive influence of money in our politics.
John, please join us for a strategy call next week to get looped in about our current and upcoming campaigns. The pro-democracy movement needs your involvement. >>
We are armed with experience from over 125 state and local victories. The policies we’re fighting for in 2022 already enjoy broad support across party lines – but we need to push them to victory together.
Hope to talk to you soon,
|
