John,

Details matter! And the details of our state’s economy-wide cap & invest program are getting hashed out right now. While the Climate Commitment Act passed just last year, the law was written to work as quickly as possible. The decisions being made now are critical to its effectiveness and decision makers need to hear from you. [[link removed]]

The Department of Ecology is drafting up the details of how this new carbon market will work, including what information the public should receive, how the state will evaluate progress towards greenhouse gas emission targets, industry accountability, and what rules everyone must follow.

While the details are being finalized, it is critical that the state knows people across Washington want this law to live up to its potential. Send in a comment now to make your voice heard during this important step of rulemaking! [[link removed]]

In evaluating and participating in this process, we are guided by the following principles:

1. Preventing harmful impacts to already overburdened communities.

2. Upholding tribal sovereignty in the implementation of the law.

3. Ensuring the success of the Environmental Justice Council in reviewing and adapting the law over time.

4. Maintaining the integrity of the cap to drive down emissions.

5. Strengthening transparency and accountability in the law.

Join us and let Ecology know that Washington deserves the strongest possible implementation of this groundbreaking climate law, guided by shared values, to meet the urgency of this moment. The deadline is January 26th - send your comment today. [[link removed]]

Sincerely,

Rebecca Ponzio
