This week, we remember the anniversary of President Barack Obama signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law, a massive step forward in the fight for equal pay. But we still have a ways to go before we close the wage gap once and for all.
In Ohio, women on average earn 79 cents for every dollar their male co-workers earn for performing the same job -- and the statistics are even worse for women of color.
If you compare the annual wages of all men and women working full-time in Ohio, the annual wage gap adds up to $10,855. That's money that could go toward paying for childcare, health care coverage, student loans, and so much more -- but women are being left behind.
The reality is that in 2022 we shouldn't still be fighting for equal pay, but we are.
It's our mission at the Ohio Democratic Party to continue to fight for equal pay. As long as employers continue to underpay their female employees, we will continue to fight for equal pay. As long as women are undervalued for their work, we will continue to fight for equal pay. And as long as there is a huge racial pay gap among women, we will continue to fight for equal pay.
It's time for change. Add your name and join us in the fight for equal pay in the workplace.
