Karsting To Receive 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award
For her ongoing, outstanding contributions to the field of maternal and child health, Kathy Karsting, RN, MPH, will be awarded the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services&rsquo; 2021 Title V Lifetime Achievement Award. Karsting, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Public Health Nurse Leader, has worked with the DHHS Title V Maternal and Child Health program since 2006 and is now Nebraska&rsquo;s Maternal Child Adolescent School Health program manager.


Perez Recognized for Advancing Cognitive Health
Congratulations to Adriana Perez, PhD, CRNP, ANP-BC, for earning the National Hispanic Council on Aging&rsquo;s 2021 Research Recognition Award. The trailblazing researcher and Campaign adviser focuses on health issues among Spanish-speaking older adults with Alzheimer&rsquo;s and related dementias. Older Hispanic people, notes Perez, are disproportionately affected by chronic disease, yet underrepresented in clinical trials.

Public examination of its work is vital, says the American Nurses Association, as it continues work on improving health care for all. That is why ANA seeks public comments for its 2022 National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing Foundational Report. In 2021, Laws Continued to Ease Access to Care
The Nurse Practitioner is out with its legislative update for 2021, noting that restrictions on nurses that had been loosened for COVID-19 circumstances have remained lifted&mdash;to the benefit of much of the public. And other states removed some requirements, too, actions that ultimately ease people&rsquo;s ability to get timely, high-quality care.

Still No. 1, After 20 Years: Nurses Most Trusted Professionals
Nurses come out on top again in Gallup's annual honesty and ethics survey, which has been conducted since 1976. It&rsquo;s the 20th year the public says it counts nurses as most trustworthy&mdash;by far. The poll, carried out December 1&ndash;16, asked people to rate the honesty and ethics of different occupational groups as very high, high, average, low or very low.

New - Health Research Scholarships Open to Those From Many Fields
Doctoral students who want to apply their research in ways that advance health equity are urged to apply to become a Health Policy Research Scholar&mdash;and that includes students from multiple disciplines, be it economics, engineering, agriculture, or others. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation offers this leadership opportunity to those from historically underrepresented populations. Deadline: March 16.

New - Marginalized Communities, Serious Illness: Take the Survey
Project Respect, an initiative of New York&rsquo;s Yeshiva University and Fordham University, seeks to understand how to better train physicians, nurses, social workers, and clergy to deliver care in a way that is respectful to LGBTQ+ patients and families. That&rsquo;s why their survey is important: It asks people to tell of experiences with health care providers while receiving care for a serious illness.
