Team — Republicans have been working to undermine the January 6th Committee since its inception.

FIRST, Kevin McCarthy said that should he become Speaker of the House, he will strip Democrats of their committee assignments.

THEN, Kevin McCarthy became the latest of many GOP members to refuse to cooperate with the investigation.

NOW, Newt Gingrich has suggested that members of the Committee will face prosecution under a Republican House.

In case you missed it, here’s what Newt said:

"I think when you have a Republican Congress, this is all going to come crashing down, and the wolves are going to find out that they're now sheep and they're the ones who are in fact, I think, face a real risk of jail for the kinds of laws they're breaking."

This statement by Gingrich, on live television for the entire country to hear, is deeply concerning on many levels. The sentiment behind it is authoritarian, anti-democratic, and frankly bizarre.

While it may be tempting to write off the ramblings of Newt Gingrich, who hasn’t held elected office in more than twenty years, recent reporting has revealed that Republicans have recruited Gingrich to help build out their campaign strategy ahead of the midterms.
