Saturday was the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade — a case I’ve studied closely and return to often. I spent Saturday reflecting on Roe’s legacy, and how far we still have to go.

As a former public interest lawyer, I’ve often represented folks whose right to safe abortion has been compromised. In fact, one of my first clients needed assistance accessing family planning health care. I have seen the incredible toll that restricting a woman’s right to reproductive healthcare can take. Despite the fact that a majority of Americans support the right to abortion, extremist politicians all over the country continue to pass laws to restrict access to this essential health care. We cannot let them win.

I will always fight for reproductive justice—and that’s a promise.

One in four American women has had an abortion, which means most American women have a personal story about abortion—either their own, or an experience supporting family members or friends. We must ensure that these folks continue to have access to reproductive care.
