John —

The House's January 6 select committee has received the last of the documents that Donald Trump's lawyers tried to withhold from the public, and the evidence is beyond disturbing.

In a draft executive order Trump never issued, he planned to direct the defense secretary to "seize voting machines." He also planned to give the defense secretary 60 days to write a sham assessment of the 2020 election — meaning Trump could have stayed president well into mid-February 2021.

These documents are further proof our democracy was on the edge of total collapse. Trump abused his executive privileges, again and again, to circumvent our democracy and attempt to seize power. His deadly insurrection might have failed, but the attacks on our democracy didn't end on January 6.

I voted for the For the People Act, the Protecting Our Democracy Act, and the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act to protect our democracy from corruption and defend the voting rights of people of color. We must send a clear message that we will not allow anyone — even the president — to subvert the will of the people.

Will you add your name next to mine to call on the Senate to forward pro-democracy reforms without delay? The January 6 committee's investigation proves beyond a doubt that we must act now to protect our democracy and our civil rights from further abuse.
