Postal workers protested the USPS's Board of Governors.

Dear Friend,

Postal workers gathered outside the U.S. Postal Service headquarters last week to protest the continued employment of postmaster general Louis DeJoy.1

Employees of the USPS have been working under onerous conditions since DeJoy took office and dismantled sorting machines, instituted a hiring freeze, and stopped overtime pay. Last fall, the Center for Public Integrity even found that employees' paychecks were being shorted on a regular basis.2

Despite this malpractice, the USPS Board of Governors just held an emergency meeting to appoint a DeJoy ally as chairperson to protect DeJoy’s position.3

Congress holds the keys to stopping DeJoy and saving the post office. They can confirm nominees to the Board of Governors who are committed to firing DeJoy. And they can pass legislation, like the Postal Service Reform Act, to stop DeJoy’s schemes. Demand Progress has helped mobilize more than 150,000 messages in the last year urging Congress to act. We have limited time to make our voices heard, and we need your help immediately.

Will you chip in $10 to Demand Progress and help call on the Senate to save the post office?

Since DeJoy took office in 2020, on-time mail delivery has fallen to a measly 60%.4

This downturn in delivery is no accident. DeJoy has enacted a 10-year plan to slow the mail and raise prices.5 He is a longtime investor in the USPS’s competitors, and destroying the post office will line his pockets.

Unfortunately, a majority of the current USPS Board of Governors is allowing him to dismantle one of our oldest public services.

Senators on both sides of the aisle have expressed concern about DeJoy’s actions, and they have the power to rein him in.5 That’s why we are calling on Congress to pass legislation and confirm Postal Board of Governors nominees who are committed to the following goals: saving and expanding postal infrastructure, maintaining living wages and benefits for employees, and, most important, reining in DeJoy and addressing his financial conflicts of interest.

We must continue our fight to hold DeJoy accountable and fix the post office. Will you donate?

Yes, I’ll donate to Demand Progress and help save the post office!

Thanks for standing with us.

Robert Cruickshank,
Demand Progress
