The past few weeks on Capitol Hill have reinforced what we’ve known since January 6, 2021: Republicans will stop at nothing to hold onto their power. They will attack every facet of our democracy if they think it will aid them in their pursuit of the Speaker’s gavel or the Oval Office.

Over the past few years, we have all spoken out as Republicans have put up barrier after barrier to voting access across the country — from purging voter registration rolls in Georgia to gerrymandering districts to practically guarantee a GOP win.

After the events in Congress over the last few weeks, I feel compelled to speak up again.

Let me be clear: The January 6th Committee is our only shot to prevent a complete GOP takeover of Congress in this year’s midterm elections. And if justice is not served — and Republicans take the House, the Senate, or both — they will never peacefully concede power again.

As a nation, and as Democrats, we cannot overthink this. This crime was committed in plain sight, and members of Congress were witnesses. The investigation into the violence of January 6 is not a “political witch hunt” — it is the pursuit of accountability for those who incited and committed violent acts against our democracy.

The countdown to the 2022 midterm elections is on. If this investigation is not successful in holding each and every Republican elected official involved accountable for their actions, the odds that Republicans win the midterm elections will only increase. And if they win, I fear it may be the last election we have.

Republicans have already stated their intent to jail members of the committee should they take back the majority this November.

So, John, I’m asking you today: Please add your name to show your support for the work of the January 6th Committee. We need all the support we can get as this movement for accountability continues.
