Peatlands Can Advance Climate Action in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia holds over 54% of the world’s peatlands, which help control water flow and store carbon. The region currently faces massive deforestation that makes peatlands highly flammable, and fires in the area can turn this carbon sink into a carbon source. But there’s new hope: advanced satellite-based mapping methods can help experts better monitor and manage these ecosystems so that they can continue to absorb carbon and slow climate change. Getting More Electric School Buses on the Road in the US

The U.S. Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act, which was signed into law in 2021, includes an unprecedented investment in electric school buses that will help bring cleaner bus rides for 20 million students. However, the funding alone will not be enough to electrify school buses across the country. States need to get onboard to help the electric school bus transition happen at scale. 6 Ways to Put People at the Center of Ecosystem Restoration

Momentum for ecosystem restoration continues to grow, and with good reason: Restoration can create between $7 and $30 of benefits for every $1 invested. But when local communities and marginalized groups do not lead these projects, those benefits may not get equally distributed, resulting in an increase in social inequity.
