Dear John,

We know that PD hours are hard to come by these days and that your time is precious. That's why we're offering you a self-paced, online opportunity that is community-driven. This semester, we are asking participants to complete one module of one of our courses below and share their feedback via a survey tool. To express our appreciation, we will provide you with a $25 Amazon gift card for the completion of a module and the course survey.

Our courses are designed to deepen your subject area knowledge and create connections with educators from across the country. Courses are entirely online and self-paced but are moderated by an eLearning Instructor. Participants will have from February 1-May 8, 2022 to complete a course module.

** Time Commitment
------------------------------------------------------------
The anticipated time commitment for completion of a module is 1.5-3 hours.
Courses Available
* Teaching Logic & Reasoning ([link removed])
The classroom acts as a microcosm of a civic society where the practice of engaging in civil dialogue that respectfully challenges arguments from the point of logic and reason allows students to understand what it means to participate in a free society. Students come to understand how standards of logic can unify and serve as a tool for human connection.
This course will provide teachers with additional support in teaching the logic and reasoning skills students require for participation in a Socratic-based classroom. Participants will first explore the components of effective logic and reasoning and encounter each in civic life, before applying each to classroom situations. Developing these skills, often within the context of dialogue, supports education for self-governance.

* Advanced Socratic Pedagogy ([link removed])
Socratic technique is a continuous practice. No matter how experienced a practitioner is, challenges arise when students engage in dialogue. This course will allow participants to reflect on their own practice while also engaging in common issues that arise within the Socratic classroom. The exploration of such issues helps participants develop stronger observational and diagnostic skills in relation to the Socratic method. This work moves students toward a place in which they can lead their own rich, intellectual conversations where they comfortably explore issues from diverse fundamental moral premises with a sense of openness. The result is the habit of thought becomes a way of life for both teacher and student.

"I love the lessons provided through this academy. It took targeted issues and provided an in-depth look at where I know I fell short. It gave me some added information that I can present to my students that will benefit their understanding of some of the core principles of our government. The activities are new and I believe that the students will be very engaged in them which will just further their understanding."
