Here's the deal, John: we have the resources to eliminate the state food tax and still fully fund our schools, fix our roads and bridges, and expand access to high-speed internet.
All it would take is 13 words from the Kansas State Legislature -- no frills, just: "We hereby eliminate the state sales tax on food in Kansas, effective immediately." If the legislature can put aside their differences and put forward this exact legislation, I will sign it the second it hits my desk.
That's it, that's all it will take -- and it won't hurt our economy or halt progress in other areas of the state.
For too long, Kansans have been paying more for groceries than people in almost every other state, but with this simple legislation to end the food tax, we'll be able to put money back into the pockets of everyday Kansans. On average, a family of four will save up to $500 a year on their grocery bills. That's extra money to go toward gas, school supplies, or bills. It's money that will make a difference.
I urge the state legislature to work together and put partisan differences aside to put forward this short, crucial legislation that will help ALL Kansans.
If you support efforts to Axe the Food Tax in Kansas, join me in urging the state legislature to take immediate action right away. Add your name now.
