Reproductive rights and justice advocates across the country celebrated what could be the last anniversary of Roe v. Wade this weekend.
Friend, abortion rights are under attack, but I’m fighting to make sure we are here celebrating another anniversary next year. Roe is more than just a Supreme Court ruling from 49 years ago, and my family knows all too well the loss that can come with high-risk pregnancies .
Decades ago, before there was a Roe anniversary to celebrate, my husband’s grandmother died as a result of her seventh pregnancy after physicians informed her that she and her baby would not survive the full term and birth. Back then, stories like this weren’t unique.
And today, many families face similarly difficult decisions around high-risk pregnancies – decisions that should be made by the woman, her family, and her doctors, not the government .
I know this, and that’s why I’ll do all that I can to ensure we’re here next year commemorating 50 years of Roe . If you’re interested, you can read more about my family’s full story and what I’m doing to ensure advocates like you stay in the fight here [[link removed]] .

Though the Supreme Court has signaled its willingness to overturn Roe in recent years, this important fight isn’t over yet. We must do everything we can to defend women’s healthcare and the fundamental right to choose.
Sincerely,
Madeleine Dean
