Laura Kelly Made Kansas a "Destination" for Abortions

TOPEKA, KS – Kansans traveled across the country last week for the March for Life in Washington, D.C. to speak out against ongoing efforts by Democrats like Laura Kelly to push extreme, out-of-touch policies on abortion. And today, many will be gathering again in Topeka. Dating back to her time in the legislature, Kelly has consistently and repeatedly supported policies that would not only allow for late-term and dismemberment abortions in Kansas but also protect late-term abortion providers. Under Kelly, abortions in Kansas have increased every year she has been governor – including a 9.1% increase in 2020. That became the first year since 1973 when more abortions in the state were performed on out-of-state residents than Kansans, allowing Kansas to be dubbed a "regional destination for abortion."

Data for 2021 has yet to be released, but Kelly's policies have turned Kansas into a "sanctuary" for abortion and recent reports indicate the annual total could once again increase.  "Laura Kelly has used her office to make Kansas a destination state for abortions and prioritize abortion providers throughout the pandemic," said KSGOP Executive Director Shannon Pahls. "As Democrats and Laura Kelly's abortion lobby backers push for unfettered access to abortion up until the moment of birth, Kelly's continued silence on the issue is consistent with her pattern of dodging questions that require her to choose between what’s best for Kansas and the extreme wing of her Party. Kansans reject Laura Kelly's abortion extremism and are eager to elect someone who will stand for the sanctity of life."
