DC has completed its overhaul of the 801 East Men’s Shelter, bringing 396 emergency shelter beds (more during hypothermia season) to the St. Elizabeth’s campus. Three firefighters were killed and a fourth is on life support after a vacant Baltimore rowhome partially collapsed as they were fighting a blaze. The city has roughly 16,000 vacant buildings, which pose hazards to the city’s emergency responders. (Baltimore Sun)
The Northern Virginia Regional Commission is studying the possibility of launching a commuter ferry that would travel from Woodbridge up the Potomac River to DC, possibly stopping at places including National Harbor and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
