Arlington approves speed cameras near schools and work zones

Overhaul of 396-bed emergency men’s shelter completed in Ward 8

DC has completed its overhaul of the 801 East Men’s Shelter, bringing 396 emergency shelter beds (more during hypothermia season) to the St. Elizabeth’s campus. Three firefighters killed in vacant Baltimore rowhouse fire

Three firefighters were killed and a fourth is on life support after a vacant Baltimore rowhome partially collapsed as they were fighting a blaze. The city has roughly 16,000 vacant buildings, which pose hazards to the city’s emergency responders.  (Baltimore Sun)

Study considers Woodbridge to DC commuter ferry

The Northern Virginia Regional Commission is studying the possibility of launching a commuter ferry that would travel from Woodbridge up the Potomac River to DC, possibly stopping at places including National Harbor and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. Washington area apartments had a record year

Apartment absorption skyrocketed in the District in 2021, sending the vacancy rate down and rents up, with similar trends in other jurisdictions around the region. Rents in the metropolitan area were up 15% last year.  (Nena Perry-Brown / UrbanTurf)
