We are delighted to invite you to our virtual New Year’s Reception, on Tuesday, 1 February from 19:00 to 20:00 CET.
What a year 2021 has been! The Green Wave has continued to translate into successful elections, ending the year with Greens in government in eight European countries. This alone could be the reason to celebrate. We also passed a total of 23 resolutions on crucial European issues such as fair distribution of COVID vaccines, a four-day work week, global climate action, energy poverty, and more. So we get together and dedicate this special evening to all that we have achieved together.
Our co-chairs Evelyne Huytebroeck and Thomas Waitz will welcome you and share their reflections on the challenges and successes in the year 2021 and announce plans for 2022.
This year once again we devote our new year celebration to support culture – a sector that has been particularly hit by the Covid19 crisis. The reception will be moderated by the comedian and TV host Dena Vahdani, and will feature Rokia Bamba, a talented Brussels-based sound artist, DJ and radio producer.
We’re excited to celebrate Green victories of the past year, so grab a glass of your favourite fizzy drink and join us in celebrating the year ahead of us!
This is a voluntary donation-based event. If you choose to, you can make a small donation while registering. All donations will go to support the artist.

The Green Screen: stream ‘The Forum' for free
|
Between January 26-27, you can watch the documentary ‘The Forum' by Marcus Vetter for free as part of our The Green Screen project.
In times of rampant populism and growing mistrust of the elite, director Marcus Vetter accompanies the 81-year-old founder of the controversial World Economic Forum over a period of two years, as he works to achieve his mission: improve the state of the world. The film will have English, German, Portuguese and Spanish subtitles.
|
Following the screening of the documentary ‘The Forum’, we will host a debate on Thursday 27 January at 19:30 CET. The World Economic Forum (WEF) brings together politicians and business leaders at Davos to discuss issues affecting the global economy. We will discuss the uses and pitfalls of the WEF, and whether the world’s elite coming together can put the common good above short-term profits. Can international negotiation spaces such as the World Economic Forum be a catalyst for global solidarity?
We are happy to announce two of our debate speakers:

Historic Vote on Animal Transport in the European Parliament
|
On Thursday 21 January, the European Parliament voted on a set of recommendations prepared by the Inquiry Committee on Animal Transport. The outcome of the vote is bittersweet, as some key demands – notably on shortening transport times – were rejected. There are, however, improvements on transport conditions for some species and young animals, as well as stricter controls.
Over 40 000 tilt! supporters signed a petition demanding action for animal welfare, handed over to Committee Chair, Green MEP Tilly Metz.

EU Taxonomy: Stop the greenwashing of nuclear power and gas!
|
On Friday 31 December, the EU Commission proposed to declare nuclear power and fossil natural gas as “sustainable investments”. This will put climate neutrality and Europe's energy transition into question. Billions of euros would flow to gas and nuclear energy pretending that it is just as good as renewables for the climate and environment, while it is clearly not.
The energy transition must not fall victim to greenwashing!
