Author Daniel Okrent joins Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen for a discussion on Article V, the amendment process, highlighting the stories behind the ratifications of the 18th and 21st Amendments—a topic Okrent explores in his book Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition. Okrent will also discuss his career as a writer and historian as well as answer questions from participants.

January 24, 1993

On January 24, 1993, retired Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall died at the age of 84. Marshall was the first Black member on the Court and one of the best-known litigators of his generation.

January 28, 1916

President Woodrow Wilson nominated the successful Boston attorney Louis Brandeis to the Supreme Court on January 28, 1916. January 30, 1865

Constitutional Conversations: Building the Foundations for Dialogue and Deliberation in the Classroom

Wednesday, February 2, 6:30 – 8 p.m. ET

Deepen your constitutional knowledge and enhance your strategies for fostering civil dialogue around constitutional questions with this workshop series presented by the National Constitution Center and hosted by the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation.

This series is scheduled for each Wednesday in February. Join us for some or all of the series.

Education Policy Panel

Saturday, February 5, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. ET

Former U.S. Secretaries of Education discuss the impact of federal education policy on ensuring equity of access to civic learning and engagement. John King, Arne Duncan, and Rod Paige will draw on their experiences and accomplishments both before, during, and after their tenure at the U.S. Department of Education. Moderated by National Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen.

This panel discussion is part of the NCSS 100th anniversary virtual conference.
