Bernstein: Trump is the First ‘Seditionist’ President in Our Country's History

Thursday on MSNBC’s The Beat, irrelevant former journalist Carl Bernstein ranted that former President Donald Trump is the “first seditionist president” in America’s history.

“We have a culture of misinformation and disinformation,” Bernstein began. No argument there, but that culture was established by the leftist media, not Trump and his supporters, which is whom Bernstein is blaming.

“Obviously, during the Trump era, during the Trump presidency, in our politics, we saw actual repeated serial lies by what we now know to be a president of the United States who was a seditionist,” he continued. “The first seditionist president in our history has perpetuated these lies. And worst of all, we have a political party that has accepted and embraced these lies. It has never happened before.”

This is desperate demagoguery, not truthful journalism, but that’s all Bernstein and his Party have to offer.

He added, “The Republican Party has now allowed itself by being so craven to go along with the big lie, with the serial lie, with the seditious lies. The result is we have a culture that now is almost dominated — half the people in this country are willing to go along with this misinformation, disinformation and perpetual lying. No other American president tried to stage a coup.”

The only Big Lies are the left’s claim that Joe Biden won the 2020 election fair and square, and the demonstrably false accusation that Trump tried to stage a coup. But Bernstein is correct that half the people in this country are willing to go along with misinformation, disinformation, and perpetual lying — the Democrat half.

Carl Bernstein, currently a Contributing Editor at Vanity Fair Magazine, is best known as half of Woodward & Bernstein, the pair of Washington Post investigative reporters who broke the Watergate story that led to Republican President Richard M. Nixon’s resignation in 1974.

Bernstein was born in February 1944, the son of a radical labor union lawyer and activist mother. Both his parents were secret members of the Communist Party USA.

“A case can be made that [Bernstein] should have disclosed the conflict of interest he brought to his Watergate exposes,” wrote New York media consultant Sidney Goldberg in 2003. “After all, he was brought up as a Nixon hater and readers might have been told that his family regarded Nixon as vile, as an enemy.”

Bernstein’s animus for Nixon is beyond dispute. He has written that anti-Communists such as Nixon and Joseph McCarthy unleashed a “reign of terror” in America. Yet he has always maintained that his motivation in pursuing Nixon was purely journalistic.

Bernstein also has said that growing up under the influence of his parents’ Communist values “has informed my beliefs about what is important.” Apart from his parents, one of Bernstein’s most admired role models is the radical journalist I.F. Stone.
