Congratulations to Kimberly for correctly identifying this juvenile Cooper’s Hawk (Accipiter cooperii). According to All About Birds, these accipiters are skillful fliers that primarily eat other birds right out of the air. Outside of breeding season, this species tends to be silent. They are slightly larger than the Sharp-shinned Hawk, Accipiter striatus.
