John,

TAKE ACTION TODAY! Your Representatives need to hear from you!

Last week, the House Rural Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee heard testimony from passionate people about the importance of restoring abundant salmon for future generations.

Tribal leaders, people from the fishing industry and those who recreationally fish, scientists, and community leaders spoke to the urgency facing Washington state. More than 1,700 people signed in to support the Lorraine Loomis Act.

We need a better path forward that gives salmon a chance to survive and thrive. [[link removed]]

Across the state, salmon are on the brink of extinction. Some Puget Sound salmon species are below 10% of historic abundance. In the Columbia River some populations are at 2% of historical numbers.

To avoid extinction, bold action is needed now. [[link removed]]

Governor Inslee proposed habitat legislation named after Lorraine Loomis, a longtime champion for salmon (Swinomish Tribe, and Chair of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission). The Lorraine Loomis Act for Salmon Recovery (House Bill 1838) requires properly functioning riparian management zones around rivers and streams, including healthy vegetation to maintain cool waters.

The Act centers salmon recovery in future land use planning with important financial assistance, monitoring, and accountability to address the urgency of the salmon crisis.

It’s important that you take a moment to let your State Representative how much you care about salmon, and that we must move the Lorraine Loomis bill through the state legislature this session.

Thank you for all you do,
