Today, First Liberty amended our Navy SEALs lawsuit challenging the military vaccine mandate expanding the case to a class action.
This is a major development to fully restore the rights of not only our 35 U.S. Navy SEAL clients, but all U.S. Navy members who requested a legal, religious accommodation to the mandate but were denied.
We already won an important, first victory in favor of the Navy SEALs. In a strongly worded order, a federal district court stopped the Department of Defense from punishing our clients and violating the law while the case moves forward.
But that win was just the beginning. The battle to restore and protect religious liberty for all service members is not yet over.
Beyond seeking protection for our clients, our lawsuit now includes all U.S. Navy members who have requested a religious accommodation. A victory could have broad impact and help protect thousands of other military personnel whose requests have been rejected.
Watch the video below. First Liberty President and CEO Kelly Shackelford explains why this recent legal action is so important:
To date, the U.S. Navy has not approved a single religious accommodation request. And it seems the Navy isn’t giving religious service members the proper legal consideration required by law. Documents published in recent weeks show what appears to be a generic form letter denying religious accommodation requests across the board. As the federal judge said, their process is pure “theatre.”
Our brave military heroes are essentially being forced to choose between their faith or serving their country. This is outrageous, wrong and illegal. They’re protected by both federal law and military regulations to serve without having to give up their religious liberty.
First Liberty is going to need your ongoing support. This will be a tough legal battle, but we’re optimistic that together, we can win it.
Please donate today. Tens of thousands of service members and their families are depending on us.
