John,
If you’re reading my email, there’s a good chance you’re accessing the internet from where you are.
Unfortunately, there are more than 400,000 North Carolinians — myself included — who lack access to high-speed broadband, let alone any sort of internet access in 2022.
Broadband isn’t a luxury, it’s a utility. That’s why I’ve made universal broadband a major part of my campaign platform.
But all too often, the needs of rural communities are overlooked or ignored. That’s why I am asking you to join us and add your name to our petition today to demand universal broadband so rural families do not fall further behind.

Universal broadband is a policy that is personal. Years ago I moved back to my parent's home in Northampton County to take care of my ailing father and study at Duke Divinity School.
I was back in my rural community where there wasn’t a half-decent grocery store within a 30-minute drive. The dial-up internet connection was so bad I had to drop out of school. I was devastated. I thought I was foreclosing on my dreams.
It’s not just me and my family — all over North Carolina’s 2nd District and across our nation, folks are still forced to choose between their rural homes and the pursuit of their passions.
Lack of broadband access limits employment and educational opportunities for far too many Americans. In particular, universal broadband infrastructure would level the playing field for rural Black communities in the South.
I’m dedicated to making universal broadband a reality in America, to ensure everyone, regardless of their zip code, can access this vital service. Will you join me and add your name today?
