Hello,
It’s been almost six years since Justice Antonin Scalia passed suddenly and a vacancy occurred on the Supreme Court.
And it’s been almost six years since Mitch McConnell and my opponent, Chuck Grassley, conspired to not hold a vote – or even a hearing – for President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, because it was “an election year.”
But now Chuck Grassley is already creating another completely made-up “rule” for a Supreme Court vacancy during President Biden’s first term!
He just told CNN: "You know what the rule is on that. You go back to 1886 and ever since then, when the Senate's been of one party and the president's been of another party, you didn't confirm."
During Gerald Ford’s presidency, Ronald Reagan’s presidency, and George H.W. Bush’s presidency, a Democratic-led Senate confirmed Republican-nominated justices. Grassley should know – since he was there during the votes, at least physically.
I share your curiosity where this “one party can’t confirm another party’s Supreme Court nominee" business comes from. Are those the words of a shyster or of forgetfulness?
We cannot afford to lose our Democratic majority in the Senate and put Mitch McConnell and Chuck Grassley back in charge. We don’t have to imagine what will happen if there’s another Supreme Court vacancy; they’re already telling us.
Senate control will likely be decided by my race here in Iowa. The Super PACs are already loading up millions for attack ads against me. The only way to protect our Senate majority and prevent McConnell and Grassley from stealing yet another Supreme Court seat is if grassroots donors like you help with the resources to fight back.

We cannot allow McConnell and Grassley to get away with it again. Not on our watch.
Thank you for being a part of our campaign,
