Team, Nida Allam is running for Congress in North Carolina to lift up her community and deliver a living wage, Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and other urgently needed policies North Carolinians are counting on.

In a moment, I’m going to ask you to split a donation between our campaigns so we can fight for bold, transformative change together in Congress. [[link removed]] But first, I want to share why I’m proudly giving Nida my endorsement today.

In 2015, Nida’s friends, Deah, Yusor, and Razan were murdered in a horrific anti-Muslim hate crime. The killer was a man who was known for threatening his Black and brown neighbors — he had already threatened Nida’s friends multiple times with a gun.

In the years since this gruesome day, Nida has organized her community, joined Bernie Sanders’ campaign as a political director, served in the North Carolina Democratic Party, and been elected the first Muslim woman to public office in North Carolina history.

Now, she’s running to represent North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District to fight for progressive policies and a future where no one else has to experience the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence. She’d be the first Muslim Congresswoman from the South.

I know what it’s like to be the first — I was the first Somali lawmaker ever elected in the United States and one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress alongside Rashida Tlaib. But part of being the first is working to make sure I am not the last, and that I help open doors for others.

As a young, progressive Muslim woman pushing for a better future for her generation, Nida is one of those people. As Durham County Commissioner, Nida hasn’t wasted a moment fighting to better her community. She voted to raise the minimum wage for county employees to $15 an hour and led the charge to provide property tax relief for low-income people in her community.

We need more bold voices like Nida’s in Congress to make policies like Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and gun violence prevention a reality. That’s why I’m proud to endorse her, and why I’m asking you if you’ll join me in supporting her:
