We are only a few weeks into 2022 and it is already apparent that this year will be among our busiest ever! We are already tracking over 400 pieces of legislation in 40 states. These bills address a wide array of reforms, including adult-use legalization, medical access, decriminalization, expungement, and more. In just the past few days, we’ve seen the advancement of adult-use legalization in New Hampshire, the advancement of medical use in Mississippi, and the beginning of an earnest debate to legalize the marijuana market in Delaware.
In addition to this groundswell at the state level, we are also anticipating members of Congress to take up our fight in the coming weeks. Specifically, we are preparing for potential votes on important amendments to appropriations bills that will protect state-regulated marijuana programs from federal interference, as well as a vote on the floor of the House of Representatives on legislation repealing federal prohibition.
NORML’s staff in Washington, DC, along with our affiliates across the country, are prepared for these upcoming battles, but we could really use your help. Unlike big industry interests who seek to craft legalization that largely supports their financial interests, we work toward the passage of laws that place the interests of you – the individual cannabis consumer – first. And while we don’t have an army of for-hire DC lobbyists working 24/7 for us, we have access to a resource that is far more powerful…YOU.
