Hey Indivisibles,
By now, I am sure you’ve heard the disheartening news on democracy reform.
In case you haven’t, last week, the Senate failed to reform the filibuster
in order to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R Lewis Act. Senator Manchin
and Sinema sided with Mitch McConnell to block any democracy reform
efforts from moving forward. Although our hearts are heavy with loss, it
is important that we take the time to reflect as a movement on what our
next steps will be, and where we stand in the future.
Despite the fact that we did not win democracy reform, that doesn’t mean
the fight for real democracy stops here. It took 100 years to get rid of
Jim Crow, and it will take more than a year to get rid of Jim Crow 2.0.
But, history is on our side, and we refuse to wait any longer. We will
continue fighting on until justice prevails. So that means we have to do
longer-term planning for how our movement can support election
integrity–and work to prevent election subversion–in the lead up to 2024
in the absence of federal legislation to safeguard our democracy.
Again, please don't be discouraged! As a grassroots movement, we organized
like we've never seen: phone calls, social media campaigns, donations,
rallies and events (online and in-person) and SO much more! Indivisibles
in Red States proved that not only do these MoCs not represent their
constituents, but also that our movement is powerful in these states.
Indivisibles in Blue States made sure that their Democratic MoCs kept
their promises to their constituents and voted yes on key pieces of
legislation. Without a doubt, we helped shine a national spotlight on the
urgency to safeguard our democracy and our voting rights leaving no stone
unturned. If that isn’t a job well done, I am not sure what is!
With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

Your weekly to-dos
1. [ [link removed] ]Join us for our National Activist Call feat. Senator Elizabeth
Warren on Jan 24, 2022 08:00 PM EST! We know the results of the
voting rights and rules reform votes in the Senate are difficult and
discouraging. Please join us, along with Senator Elizabeth Warren, to
collectively process this moment, celebrate the meaning of
Indivisibles' hard work in spite of results, and look toward what
comes next. Together we can practice hope and move toward rest and
action.
2. Rest, stay, hydrated, get some sunlight. Activist burnout is
unfortunately very real – and it is important as we are on this
journey to create meaningful change in our communities, that we don’t
forget to take care of ourselves. So if you need to take a break,
more power to you. If you need to take a deep breath, do it. It is
vital that you make sure you are getting enough rest, drinking plenty
of water, getting some sunlight, and practicing lots of self-care and
self-love. There are other people in this choir who are going to keep
on singing. We're in this fight for the long haul and we need to take
care of ourselves and each other.
3. [ [link removed] ]Sign up to contact voters and more with Give No Ground. The best
way to ensure Manchin and Sinema can’t do this again is to expand our
majority so they don’t get to cast deciding votes (plus, get Sinema
out of office entirely). Give No Ground is our program to do just
that and you can be a part of it.
4. Lastly, keep yourself, friends, loved ones and future Indivisibles
informed by sharing our social media pages. By doing this, you can
make sure you and everyone you know is updated on our ongoing fights
for democracy reform by following us on [ [link removed] ]Facebook, [ [link removed] ]Twitter, and

virtual workshop!
A common term sometimes thrown around during election cycles is
“electability.” Have you ever heard someone say, “I love that young,
progressive female candidate or candidate of color, I’m just not sure
they’re electable”? Or have you ever had that thought yourself? Come learn
what’s really going on when people talk about electability, how to resist
unconscious bias that is coded as electability, and what to say when
fellow Indivisibles or other friends and family are expressing these
concerns. You don’t want to miss this! [ [link removed] ]Click here to sign up.
