Hold the Union-Busting, Starbucks.

Labor Committee's Monthly Meeting has moved to Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 6 PM to 7 PM. Register here. Why? There's a solidarity rally with coffee workers organizing who now face union-busting by Starbucks. Simply show up to Cal Anderson Park on Tuesday, January 25 at 6 PM near the Playfield. No RSVP, No Zoom. We'll be hearing from:

  • Seattle Starbucks Workers
  • Buffalo Starbucks Workers (who just won a union first!)
  • Councilmember Kshama Sawant

People have a right to self-defense and self-preservation. No, Black lives are not negotiable.

CW: police violence
State lawmakers are proposing to allow physical force by police against anyone fleeing police, regardless of suspicion, danger, etc. Anyone. We we know from SPD's record that physical force can still kill people -- and resisting physical force is used as pretext for escalating to deadly force. This is not abstract. It is already used to hurl abuse against people of color. It already is hurled against the labor movement and the environmental movement and Coast Salish peoples on land un-ceded. To say it won’t be deadly is to ignore SPD’s failure to abide by its years long consent decree and years of escalation. They did not come in peace for Charleena Lyles, John T. Williams, and Tommy Le. Decrim Seattle and DivestSPD are urging community to testify against HB 2037. We're still fighting for abolition and Seattle's reactionary City Attorney and state lawmakers won't expand police violence an inch further.
As Fred Hampton, BPP Illinois Chapter Chairperson in a Speech at Northern Illinois University in November 1969 put it: "We say it’s a question of resistance to fascism or non-existence within fascism."
