On the Agenda: Tens of thousands of Americans came to Washington, D.C., for the 49th annual March for Life. Heritage President Kevin Roberts and a coalition of conservative leaders explain what’s at stake for the pro-life movement. Also in the news, Heritage launched a new Conservative Oversight Project to do what the liberal media won’t: hold the Biden administration accountable. We also have the takeaways from Biden’s press conference, and a takedown of California’s latest run at socializing its health care. There’s more to explore in The Agenda.

No Matter Dobb’s Outcome, the Pro-Life Movement’s Work Has Just Begun

Coalition statement: Heritage President Kevin Roberts joined other pro-life leaders, including Dr. Ben Carson, Marjorie Dannenfelser, Jim DeMint, and Tony Perkins, in a joint op-ed outlining what’s ahead for the pro-life movement in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s forthcoming Dobbs ruling.

Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: “We have the opportunity to make real change this year,” they write. “The spotlight has never been bigger on the pro-life movement, as millions of Americans will focus on the issue after the landmark decision.”

Work to do: The pro-life leaders emphasize that even if the court overturns Roe, the work of the pro-life movement has just begun.

Conservative Oversight Project to Bring Accountability to Biden Regime

What’s news: Heritage launched the Conservative Oversight Project last week to provide aggressive oversight of the Biden administration and its corporate and political enablers. The project will also serve as a resource for the conservative movement.

Who’s in charge: Mike Howell, an attorney with experience on both of the top oversight committees on Capitol Hill and in the executive branch, and Mark Morgan, who most recently led U.S. Customs and Border Protection, will lead the project.

Why it’s needed: “We cannot rely on legacy media, Big Tech, or government institutions to provide a truthful accounting of the damage being inflicted to our republic and the rights and freedoms for which it stands,” Heritage President Kevin Roberts says.

What We Learned at Biden’s Disastrous Press Conference

Tuning in: President Joe Biden, who’s been one of the least accessible presidents in history, held a rare press conference last week to mark his first year in office. The Daily Signal’s Fred Lucas had eight takeaways from the nearly two-hour marathon. Two stand out.

Biden thinks highly of himself: “Can you think of any other president that has done as much in one year? Name one for me?” Biden bragged to reporters. Later he claimed his rock-bottom poll numbers weren’t accurate.

He isn’t done yet: Biden promised to keep trying to get his “Build Back Better” monstrosity enacted by breaking it up into smaller chunks to “get as much as we can now, and come back and fight for the rest later,” he said.

California Tries Once More to Impose Single-Payer Health Care

La la land: Lawmakers in deep-blue California mounted another attempt to create a single-payer health care system, which would eliminate virtually all private health insurance in the state.

Little benefit: Heritage senior fellow Robert Moffit, Ph.D., says that the plan would “help” only a tiny fraction of Californians because most have coverage today or are eligible for financial help. “This is not about coverage, it is about control,” he writes.

Massive price tag: It would also cost around $400 billion a year, which would double the size of California’s state budget.

Read more: Check out Moffit’s analysis of the California plan and why it would be a disaster for Californians here.
