Friends, yesterday was the anniversary of Roe v. Wade — a Supreme Court case that enshrined the constitutional right to an abortion and defended the right for women to make healthcare decisions about their own bodies.
Yet 49 years later, attacks on reproductive freedom have never been more threatening. The Supreme Court is set to rule on a case that will determine the future of Roe, and our governor, Henry McMaster, isn’t lifting a finger to defend reproductive rights.
In fact, he’s committed to being a part of the problem — promising in his State of the State address this week to defend his administration’s attacks on reproductive freedom.
If Henry got his way, the GOP’s Fetal Heartbeat Law would essentially ban abortion — before some women even know that they’re pregnant.
Gov. McMaster wants to take us back to the dark ages — but not me. I’ve been a fierce advocate in defense of a woman’s right to choose throughout my career, and you can bet I’ll continue to fight for reproductive freedom from the governor’s office.
South Carolinians deserve to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions without governmental interference. If you agree, please consider making a contribution to my campaign for governor so we can defend reproductive rights before it’s too late.
